BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO

I'm looking at putting a set of these on my 01 Tahoe...and have trying to do a bit of research as to what to expect out of them.

And I am floored at how wide the ratings gap on these is. Some people are getting rid of these things after 20K miles....other just love them.

Lots are saying they are awful in snow/ice/rain....others say they are the best handling tire in the world. WTF!?!?


Anyone put these on their truck care to comment?

I used to sell, what I would call, the Big 3 of tire mfgs, Michelin BFGoodrich, Uniroyal. That is until this past summer when their prices increased 3 times in one quarter.

So I am more than partial to the BFG A/T KO. I think its an awesome, sexy looking, long lasting tire.

Well thats good to hear....I put a ton of miles on my truck...and if I end up with something that wears down fast....I'd be pissed. I don't need 60K miles out of them....but at least 45 would be nice

With a good front end, meaning that your alignment and steering components are in good shape, proper tire inflation, rotation sequences, you should have no problem getting the mileage you want out of them.

I run 20’s with directional’s during the summer and p285 BFG all terrain KO’s during the winter and I will never buy anything else. I have ran them on 2 K5 blazers, 1 1969 CJ5, 1993 Z-71, and my 01 Yukon and they ROCK!
I have climbed hills that newer and more powerful trucks can’t. I have never been stuck and in Nebraska when it shows I go looking for people to help out. Cars and trucks in ditches, I’m there pulling them out. The cop’s love it because all the tow trucks are busy so essentially it is a free pass to do whatever I want where ever the he!l I want to do it. What I’m getting at is I love them, they are quiet and they last.

what do you think about running them year round?

I used to do that but I like the 20’s in the summer. We have too much salt and crap on the roads to run them year around so I have 2 complete sets of tires and wheels.

The Yukon is a little nicer truck and I don’t off road it (that much) J But the z-71 I would take off road’n under the Mormon bridge on the Iowa side during the summer and they do great in the mud as well.

If you are going to be on-road most of the time BFG’s might be a little over kill. I could be mistaken but I believe they have thicker sidewalls which might make for a stiffer ride. It’s worth it to me to know that I can lock it in and have the confidence that I’m going to get back out. And they are kind of sexy, I love the tread pattern and the white letters.

I'd say that is about on par. I too would put the Michelin LTX A/S-M/S at the top of the list. I would not put Badyear or Fearstone anywhere near where they are located.

You may ask if I am biased. I would have to answer, yes I am. Though with good reason, as I have typed, I sold the Big 3 for many years with great confidence in knowing I was selling a superior product.

I have since began to sell Cooper tires, though only because of the Big 3's three price increases over one quarter, it became hard to make money on them. I make more on Cooper tires, but between you and me as well as others on this board, I would not install a set of Cooper tires on any one of my family member's cars. I dislike the quality, road noise, wear patterns, and general overall look of their tires.

I just got some put on mine before I drove to MO. They worked great especially in all the snow and crap through Kansas. Dont have too many mile on em but so far so good! My dad has them on is Silverado and likes them. The have grip when you need it and they ride nice for everyday use.

Dude...I'll be honest...I KNOW that these are probably over kill....but I am a HUGE fan of the look. I might only "need" them 10-15 times a year....I just want to make sure I'm not going to be driving so much on the Highway that I only get like 30K miles out of them./

My truck ain't flashy...it ain't pretty...its a F'n truck YO!!! I don't wanna look like I'm gonna race....I wanna look like I'ma run ya over!!!

Ummmm okay…….. BFG’s will not wear like boggers or super swampers that are made for off road use only. I know some guys that had to have the 44 inch super swappers and those big lugs get torn up fast on the street. If you are looking for a more aggressive tire the BFG mud terrain is also a good choice but you’ll get a lot more road noise.

i`ve had 3 sets of the bfg a/t k/o`s and i love them. they`re great in the snow and mud. i have them 35`s on my lifted 85 gmc pickup, they`re almost to the wear bars and they still work great in the snow.

i highly recommend them.

I say find one of those douches getting rid of them after 20K and you’ll have yourself a hell of a deal….

I had these on my lifted 95 Wrangler. LOVED them. 35 inchers gave me crappy gas mileage(4 banger), but they were excellent offroad. Put about 20,000 miles on them and they still had most of the tread left when I traded it in so my wife could get a new vehicle....

There are two Mud Terrain's, the KM and the KM2, both are darned good looking. My buddy had a set of the KM's on his Jeep, looked sweet but deadly on ice. The KM2's look like they would do better on ice as the tread blocks are broken up more, and of course sipping always helps, but as far as road wear goes I have no idea. Us guys who choose the big gnarly tires just have to suck up the fact they will be noisier and worse on mileage than a traditional road tire. I run Parnelly Jones Dirt Grips, 33x12.5x15 on my Ram 1500. Of course a larger tire screws up your gear ratio too, once again, something we accept, or else put new gears in front and rear. When these need to be replaced, hopefully not for another few years, I was thinking about the TA KO's also, or something like this

I don't put a lot of summer miles on it, my main concern is grip in the winter, and of course with a 12.5 wide contact patch anything is going to slide around.
