I just recently got a 2001 Yukon and its already the best vehicle i have ever owned. The only mods so far are as follows - 7 inch in dash pioneer dvd, polk db 6.5 componet set custom mounted in front doors - 2 eclipse 15 inch subs powered by a directed d2400 under the rear seat. Ok so its just a system but there will be more soon.

My question is i would like to drop the Yukon its my daily driver and im in michigan so an extreme drop wouldnt be realistic im only talkin like a 1" front and 2" rear or a 2"/3" at most i plan on putting huge rims (26") in spring so i dont want to have any rubbing issues. I have heard of the torsion bar thing and new keys to raise it but will that also drop it? I dont want to heat up springs and do it the redneck way (no offense) But i would like it to sit a little lower to have a better stance. Any input would be great. Thanks

Also looking for a supercharger (maybe) for a 5.3

I am going with the Mchaughy's spindles and springs...you keep the stock ride up front, stock shocks in back (kit comes with shock relocating brackets) and a nice firm ride in back. I am starting to see some good 2/3 drop pictures around here and I am convinced this is the way to go with 20's and everyday cruising.

Anyone else have a 2/3 they can post up?

You can de-crank the front keys about 1" without needing shorter stroke shocks and buy some 3" drop springs so it will sit level. Rear shocks are cheap or you can buy some extensions if you like your current shocks. I love my truck with the drop, kinda need sway bars and a blower to really have fun tho. Here is a decent diagram of how the torsion bar adjuster bolt works, you will need to align the truck after setting the proper height you wish to lower it to

will the drop spring make the front end have a negative camber? i cant stand when the tops of the wheels dip in, can you explain how decranking the torsion bar works? is this something i can do at home?

Do you have a side shot of your set up? Did you crank yours 1" down? What kind difference did it make in the ride? If a 1" crank and rear springs with shock relocators get it done, than that is the easiest route.

I dropped my truck using torsion bar keys with less height index (effectively decreasing tension without adjusting the bolts less) and I decranked the bolts slightly for even more drop. You can drop the truck yourself but it is easier with an impact wrench and with load off the front wheels. Check your bolts to see how much you can decrank without running out too much bolt but 1" should be fine on stock shocks. My truck rides like a champ, need to screw in my autoride links a bit more out back but it handles much better.

I have a McGaughy's 2/3 and 20s on my truck. I'll be honest, with the new keys, my bumpsteer increased, other than that the ride is like stock. I'm leaning towards taking out the keys and swappin in spindles though as I've been hearing good things about those.

I'd love to see a pic of your ride...post it up.

You just need to trim your bumpstops dude, I'm building a steering stabilizer for mine or I might try to figure out a steering rack swap.

bumpstops are gone, we pulled out the stops and cut out the cups. It's not a rough ride, it's that over imperfections in the road, whatever the wheels do translates directly into the steering wheel. If I rode w/o my hands on the wheel, you will see it turn left to right on it's own. It's not a wandering left to right either, it's more like if you made a left turn and the wheel rotated 180*. If you're not paying attention, any bump could knock the wheel from your hand.

With that much decrank you may have lost your caster split, I lost a little but my torsion bars have some sag and I was able to get it pretty close to stock. I can drive mine at 90 down the highway and it will track straight as an arrow, doesn't move much at most bumps either. I would buy some spindles or mgaughey's lower control arms but it isn't very feasible here in denver, plus I'll have a impala that goes up and down if I need it to.

We didn't crank them. We marked the bolts before we took out the old keys so that the only change would be the keys, the bolts were no tighter or looser than before. Any other ideas? You seem to be full of answers.

The tension will still change if you swap keys, thats essentially why they made the adjustment bolts. I would crank them up some more or take it to an alignment shop that you can trust to set them for you. Even if you raise the truck a bit it will drive much better if you're out of alignment spec for the caster. I still have a little neg camber which is why I'm gonna raise it up slightly but I would look at doing some djm lower control arms

3" drop and you can run the stock keys or the drop keys turned up for around 4" of drop. I may be switching to these if I feel the need to go lower, sh*t scrapes on my driveway as it is tho.
