I am getting balljoints for my 1999 Yukon and there is a question concerning the lower control arms. Forged or stamped? Which one does it have? Thanks:confused2:

prolly stamped. not sure tho, i would say call the dealer and give em your VIN number. they can tell u for sure, for free without ever even having to get up out of your chair.

i bought mine off ebay for $68 shipped to the door for all 4 (2 upper and 2 lower) for my '97 2 door 4x4. a local tire and brake shop installed them in 6 hours for $327. they never asked about anything to do with the control arms. i just did research and found several pics of the ball joints i needed then found identical ones on ebay for less than a pair at the local autozone. i used chassis 500 brand b/c i'm a cheap bastard. if i had the money i would have used MOOG b/c they are far superior according to several trustworthy sources. i have heard quotes as high as $800 for parts/labor on this job. mainly b/c the stock ball joints are riveted in place and must be drilled out. apparently it's a big pain n the butt. i shopped around for a month or so before i found some1 willing to do it without raping me on the price for labor.

=)

Stamped? Well, sort of

This got to be a question because as I looked at it the control arm is stamped steel pieces welded together with a forged part welded to the end where the ball joint presses in. Well tonight after work I decided to take one side apart and measure things up. Turns out to use the smaller "stamped" control arm ball joints. So, parts are ordered and I should be able to finish it up this weekend. Thanks for the reply.
