anti-lock brakes

the anti-lock brakes light is on in my truck. i know they dont work because i slammed on brakes the other night to avoid hitting deer and the wheels locked up. is there anything i can do to fixed the anti-locks or do i have to take it somewhere like chevrolet to get fixed.

First you need to get the code out of the BCM to see what is causing the light to come on. From what I see and have been told, there is a good chance that a speed sensor in one of the wheels has gone bad or a connection was knocked loose (like if it came on after having new brakes installed or some other wheel work).

My ABS has not worked for years and I know I have a bad speed sensor on the front driver's side wheel.
