I am a newbie to the site but not to Chevy Trucks. Recently purchased a 2007 Tahoe LTZ used with 162k miles...all highway. Anyway, the vehicle is in great condition but I took it in for some new tires and was told I needed Upper Control Arms (both sides) and Upper and Lower Ball Joints (both sides). Throw in an alignment and the estimate was like $1500!

OUCHIE!!! I was not prepared to make a mortgage payment on this truck! That said, I took it to another shop for a diagnosis. They said it needs a one Front Wheel Bearing and a Lower Ball Joint on the other side with a $800 estimate.

Any advice? I'm not noticing any roaring (wheel bearing) or steering issues other than slow speed steering being a little hard. Do I need a 3rd opinion or do I just go the cheaper route? Thanks in advance!

To be honest, the first place did have me out in the shop but didn't really demonstrate anything. I'm going to take it to an independent guy today. I could jack it up myself and check for play, but I wouldn't know what the play meant. Such as if it would be due to arms, joints or bearings. Hopefully this guy steers me right today. Thanks!

Turns out I finally got an homest answer. Really the only thing that needs attention is one wheel bearing hub. The other things are not necessary yet or a safety issue. However no one looked at the rear hubs and sounds like a little grinding going on back there.
