my 1996 tahoe won't start. Less than 1000 miles ago the transmission was rebuilt. Last friday I went to start it and the starter sounded terrible. It was not turning over the engine either. Had it towed to my friends shop. Starter broke at the nose cone. Got a replacement and the truck won't start now. Turns over doesn't fire.

Has 149,000 miles. Well maintained. Before Friday it ran well. Transmission has been functioning as it should. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Broken nose cone? Sounds like a backfire possibly.... Check the timing and or the CKP sensor.... I bet the CKP took a dump on ya... Yea.... :-(

You could try some carb cleaner into the intake to see if it will fire up off that, if so, could be a fueling issue...... If not look into the ign/CKP.....

Thanks for the response. They called a little while ago and told me no spark. They were going to start with distributor cap, wires and plugs. i will update the thread as i get info.

If no spark, could be a bad coil, coil wire, or more probably with the way it died on you the CKP sensor......

Thank you for the input. I called and asked them to check the crank position sensor. The wires, plugs and cap were due anyway. Hopefully I can report back with some good news tomorrow. I miss the truck. I have other things to drive but I always grab the tahoe keys on the way out the door.

Starter, cap, wires and plugs got it back up and running. Sadly, the flexplate was damaged during the failure(s). Sounds terrible during the starting process now. Transmission and transfer case will have to be dropped... Will update when I get it back.
