I've got a 97 tahoe and the alternator is appx 2 yrs old. The alternator is now making a high pitched noise that does go away with WD40 however it comes back within just a few minutes. Is there barings that need to be replaced or is there anything else I can do to prevent this noise.
Thanks, Matt

Welcome to the Tahoe Forum.

Plan A: Take it apart and replace the bearings. BTW WD-40 is a poor lube. More of a penetrant but goes away quickly as you found out.

Plan B: Buy a new alternator.

Yeah, do not use WD40. It will remove any lubricant and most likely make it worse. Like Shark said, replace bearings or the entire altenator.
