I am looking into buying an air intake and wanted some feed back on which works best for the 2008 Tahoe 5.3l

I have been looking at the K&N 77 & 63 series , Airraid and the Banks.

Any any advice good or bad is appreciated,
Thanks

Thanks, I went thru that same issue on my duramax with the AEM intake. I took it off and went with the Airaid on it.

What are your goals and expectations?

It seems that most air intakes do not add any performance that you can really feel except for a little better throttle response. IMO, the engine will sound better though. If you do decide on one, I would recommend one that is totally isolated from recovering air from the engine bay. I think Volant has a pretty good design.

To make the most of it, add a less restrictive exhaust and tune. Keep us updated.

The GM CAI is also a good one. The new Volant Powercore is nice. I would recommend going with a dry filter one and one that is closed and doesn't get it's air from the engine bay.

Main goal is to increase the inlet CFM to compliment the hi flow Performance exhaust (flow master 40) system I just installed, with performance and Fuel MPG.

K&N 63 series, Volant Powercore, and banks all seem to be enclosed from the engine compartment. Defiantly looking for the coldest intake air possible.

With the Volant Powercore there is an optional ram air accessory that will take cold air from below the bumper area.

If you are looking to increase flow, then the Flowmaster would not be the best option. It has baffles inside the muffler versus the straight flow design of a Magnaflow and others. I like the classic truck sound of the Flowmaster, but I installed the Magnaflow for the smoother sound (wife will drive it more than I).

In any case, when you install the intake, give a review.

how well does the drop-in (replacement) k&n filter perform with flowmaster 40 with no tune or any other mods. does it really improve gas mileage and intake or does it just filter better than other drop-ins? do it give it deeper sound. what advantages does it have if any. comments and facts please.....heres the link.......

I love the aem, they actually make the GMPP kits as well. Buddy has their 21-8023DP kit on his 07 escalade and it made a noticeable difference in power. You won't notice any real gains in mileage doing an intake on these trucks and please don't buy a throttle body spacer

I experienced a positive hp gain but neg mpg with a gm cold air intake and gm "touring exhaust". I have since switched the CAI back to stock which gained around 2 mpg. I am basing this from my experience running 80 mph for extended periods of time on the highway. If you are after mpg I would keep it stock or consider a custom tune to take advantage of the modifications from stock. I will sell a gm CAI cheap to anyone interested.

How much? PM me a price, I might be interested. I've only had my truck for a month, and desperately want to upgrade.
