Very pleased with results--I don't have any objective evidence, but certainly seems to have more pep, especially at low end.

The AFE intake is the full box, but doesn't seal against the holes in the fender that the factory intake mated against. Instead, it just has a large opening facing the fender--probably OK I suppose. Also has a 'snorkel' type thing protruding from the bottom of the box, which then curves so the opening faces forward. Unfortunately, the snorkel opening is partly blocked by one of the many random parts bolted to every flat surface on all new vehicles; the rubber protective flap just behind the device is right against the snorkel opening. I'm thinking the best fix might be to just cut the curve from the snorkel, so the opening faces down... Might not be the best in dusty conditions, though.

I haven't seen any discussion on Aero mufflers--their web site is www.aeroexhaust.com --I believe the company is better known for diesel exhaust and has only relatively recently begun offering parts for gas engines. The Aero muffler is definitely louder on acceleration, and when the vehicle is started it sounds downright mean--really good tone. Haven't had on the highway for any distance yet, so not sure how much drone will be experienced. Aero also makes a resonator that is supposed to quiet the system, and I may have to add one. The guy at the muffler shop thought I'd just as well try it without and if I wanted it quieter he could then add the resonator. BTW, any one in the Denver area wanting some exhaust work should check this place out--Bud's Muffler Shop--I was very pleased with their work, and Bud, the proprietor, was willing to take the time and discuss different options and make recommendations. The new muffler with install was less than half the cost of a cat back system, and since my factory exhaust was 3/3.5" a full cat back system would have been unnecessary and redundant.

Anyway, as previously stated, I'm pleased with results. Though I know the psychological aspect of more exhaust noise can make it difficult to differentiate from a real gain, acceleration really does seem noticeably better. No figures on mileage as yet, having only driven 100 miles or so. I'm adding a Hypertech program next, and am hoping for better gas mileage as well as some add'l power.

Cool. Keep us posted on some results of the Hypertech. I know alot of people wonder about the gains between different programmers.

Which Aero muffler?

Yo, I joined the forum because of this post. I'm in Denver, too, and want to hear your Hoe. I put on an STX on the advice of the manufacturer and left the stock resonator in place. I unhooked the battery to reset the computer. I've got over 500 miles on it. My around-town fuel mileage has dropped. It does appear to have more power, though.

It's too quiet for what I want, but I don't have any resonance. I'm thinking about pulling the resonator off and seeing if that makes enough of a difference to keep the muffler.

I went with Aero because I'd put an Aero Turbine on a Tacoma last summer and had @10-15% increase in MPG. I think the AT might really work as they promote on the website, but the STX, IMHO, is a gimmick.

So, in summary, do you have the Aero Turbine? If you do, any resonance at highway speeds? If no, I'd like to meet up with you and check out the sound. I might just pull this one and put on the AT.

Enough time put on it to get a new mileage idea? I know you've got the AFE intake assemble, but I'm curious.

Peace,
- Bandit

Not sure exactly what model muffler I have, but it has two inlets and one larger outlet, so is definitely not one of the "standard" turbine mufflers. However, they showed me the muffler before installing it, and it actually has two of those "turbines" inside, angled in a "V" shape to accommodate the two into one configuration. I have an 05 Yukon Denali w/6L, so possibly this scenario is not representative of most Tahoes/Yukons.

Cruising at highway speeds is fine, but if you get into the accelerator at all there is quite a lot of drone. Doesn't really bother me yet--if it starts to, I'll return and have them put on the resonator. Also, Bud (of Bud's Muffler Service) said at the time that the large factory 3.5" exhaust pipe coming off the muffler might generate much more drone/resonance, but we decided best option was to try it as is and see if I liked it OK. I've been out of town on business quite a lot lately, so haven't really driven enough to know whether I'll want to make further changes.

Likewise, I haven't been able to make a determination on mileage as yet. Also, now that I'm back in Denver, am planning on using Hypertech this weekend.

Bandit, if you'd like to check out the sound send me a PM. I live near downtown.
