I just took delivery of my 2008 LTZ Tahoe this morning and to my surprise it doesn't have the Active fuel management, is that possible? I thought all the new ones do. Is that an export thing?

The 4.8 engine does not have AFM. The 5.3 and 6.0 does. This is for the domestic USA market since they have stringent fuel economy guidelines and all the mfrs are trying to get incremental economy in gas mileage. If you took delivery outside the USA, it may not have AFM.
Consider yourself lucky if you don't have AFM. That GM forced option is the only reason I haven't bought a new Tahoe. Like the Onstar GM crams down the consumers throat. I think its a marketing gimmick and considering it provides a 1 mpg increase, I don't think its worth the risk for all the complexity of electrical mechanical solnoids for the valve lifter actuation which allows switching from 4 to 8 to 4 to 8 to 4 to 8 etc etc.
I drive a 2000 5.3 Tahoe thats bulletproof, and the engine runs sewing machine quiet.
Good luck
