How strong?
I don't think I have that problem but I do have other issues with my ac/heater.
Randomly the ac/heater control just shuts off with out warning and for a random period of time. Anyone experience this before?

Where is the switch located? Is it the main control unit its self? If I pull it out of the dash, will I be able to see the issue or will I have to take the unit apart?

The Switch is in the heater/ac control assembly in the dash. It's easy to replace, and only costs about $20.00 form a chevy dealer. Part # 16192099.

I've replaced mine twice now. most recently a couple of weeks ago,
and it's already going out.

At first the fan starts shutting off, without apparent reason, then
eventually it won't work at all. The feel of well defined switch
positions will be gone. An examination of the bad switch will
reveal evidence of excessive heat between switch contacts.

.......So what can be done to prevent the switch from melting/
going out...?

Bigger better wiring... this small wiring can't handle the current flow
