Hey guys-

Has anyone bypassed their AC compressor??

My AC system has a leak somewhere and instead of trying to fix it I decided I would just try to bypass the compressor with a bolt-on pulley kit. (40 bucks)

The only problems I can foresee is a trouble code or something- any knowledge out there?

I'm also guessing it will increase my mileage from 12 to maybe 13 if I'm lucky!

Truck has 262,000 miles.

It will not pop a code and you shouldnt have any issues.

Why do you want to bypass it. Is the pulley bearing bad? You can just unplug it.

No- the compressor pulley/bearings are in good shape.

I thought it would put less drag on the engine.

I dont see how it could provide less drag on the engine if the compressor is not engauged. You still have to spin the bypass pulley also. Now tell me its for weight reduction. Have at it.

The ac compressor pulley spins freely until the compressor clutch engages. You would see the same mileage as you would if you were running w/o the ac on.
