Hi All,

Last night my ABS light came on and a strange humming noise from under the vehicle. The noise didnt go away even after I turned it off. So I disconnected the battery for the night then drove it to the dealer this morning.

Well, to make a long story short, the dealer told me that the ABS Module is bad and has to be replaced. And that it will cost me, parts and labor, around $1400! Holy crap! Does this sound right? Can it be bypassed for now? I dont have an extra $1400 laying around....it was just Xmas!

Please help!!!

My uncle is a mechanic and he told be the ABS light can come on when there is a bad wheel bearing. That humming could be it if its still there. But check that plug at each brake. I 've had em loose cuz they fall off the little bracket they hook to. Clean em up too while your there with contact cleaner. Just double check everything or go to a private guy and ask him to plug you in.

No, its definetly the module. Do you know if it can be unplugged (fuse) or bypassed in anyway until I have the cash?

Go to the link below to get your's rebuilt for about $157, also there's a good amount of reading you can do to learn more about the problem.
Here's what they say to do if the pump keeps running:
"Disconnect the battery terminal first to shut it down. Then locate and pull the ABS pump fuse located in the power distribution center under the hood. Basically you are looking for a fuse box with large amperage fuses and some relays. Look along the fender well in the engine compartment relatively close to the battery. It is a 60 amp fuse in most instances and should be clearly labeled "ABS" in the large fuse box with other similarly oversize fuses used for other high power subsystems Reconnect your battery after pulling the fuse. The motor should no longer be running."

Thanks for the help. Contacted the guy on ebay. Disconnected the fuse (pump stopped running) Will be disconnecting the module and sending it to him this weekend. In the meantime, I don't have ABS, my ABS light and Brake light are on on the dash...but have normal brakes and no more humming.

Thanks again....saved me about $1200!
