I'm going to be buying a Tahoe in the next couple months. I have a couple questions:

  • The environmental reasons aside - does buying a Hybrid make sense for fuel economy/resale value compared to the lower price tag of the non-Hybrid? I will only keep it for 5 years or so.
  • Should I wait for the 09 to come out and buy it? Should I wait for the 09 to come out (September'ish?) and buy the 08 at a reduced price?
  • Hybrid or not, I want fully loaded - what is the absolute lowest I can hope to pay? I've looked at Edmunds and so on, I'm not sure I'm getting the true dealer price. I know that the dealer will take barely over their cost, I just don't know what that cost is.
  • Any other helpful buying strategies

Thanks!

1. I personally think the Tahoe Hybrids are a rip off, I average about 19MPG and I have a 2wd, so why get a hybrid and average 20MPG? But I don't want to discourage you from wanting to save the planet!

2. Wait for 09's to come out and get an 08, demand on these vehicles aren't high and you can get a really good deal by waiting for a new model year and getting the year before it, I got my 07 when 08's were rolling out and got an ok deal back last year, and plus there is not much of a difference b/w 08 and 09 just depends on whether you want something really new.

3. I don't know the lowest price you can get fully loaded but just don't pay too much, like I said these vehicles are not on demand and dealers will be forced to work with you as long as you propose reasonable deals.

Hybrids dont make sense financially if you will only keep it 5 years.

They make more sense for city driving. They aren't much better than conventional on the interstate.
