Tahoe-1.jpg

06 Tahoe here. Climate control back lights are out but the controls work fine...or er.. did.

Read some posts, bought two bulbs recommended by Radio Shack (12 Volts - 60ma), soldered them in - they worked but the others went out. Controls work.

Round two, bought eight bulbs (12 Volts - 50ma) per posts, soldered them in - they work but the controls stopped working and truck goes through theft lock cycle.

Unpluged it, truck runs great and has no theft lock problems. Somewhere along the line, I messed things up. Looks like I need a new unit.

Any tips, tricks, cheats for ordering the part online?

My local GM dealer wants $230 but found them at gmpartsdirect.com for $120 with $24 shipping and gmpartsonline.net for $127 with $15 shipping charges. Anyone have any advice on either company?

Ouch there Mark.

Can you see all the wires or where you soldering them on a circuit board. I normally just replace the control heads, I just dont have any of these laying around.

I soldered the bulbs directly to the board or at least to the wires coming out of the board.

In theory you are just replacing burnt out lights. I wouldnt expect to have issue unless, on the board you are close to another circuit and providing power or ground to something that shouldnt. You might want to go back in double check that no solder is touching any other part of the circuit board. Let me see if I can get you an old control head from my friend at the dealer. He just grabbed me a few knobs off one.

Success!!!! Redid DS1 and cleaned up around DS6 and it works - dude, you're good. Now, what to do to get them blue. I destroyed all but three of the little blue condoms getting the bulbs off.

Got the blue condoms from my local salvage yard first thing this morning - got them out of two Buick Park Avenues. Glued them on, problem solved. Thanks for all the help!
