99 tahoe exhaust

What's up guys, wanting to redo my exhaust manifold because it is rusted and looks terrible, but looking online there are many different headers I can replace them with ranging from $59-$400. It is my 99 tahoe daily driver 5.7 gas 4x4 . So here are my questions.

1. Which headers can I buy that are cheap enough, but still give me the desired sound?
2. Instead of buying a converter unit for $$$, can't I just buy the converters and have the exhaust shop piece together pipes to weld them on? Would that be cheaper than buying a complete unit?

Just a deep growl, I have my eyes on the Gibson shorties but they are $350+, but I've seen different brands for $250 or lower, what's the difference?

The Flowmaster Exhaust system are also highly recommended.

if your going to bother i would go for the complete setup and blow the coin on a true dule system with high flo cats and flowmasters but i prefer trick flo headers, shorties so you can un at least 2 inch pipe but 3 would be better.
