I have a '99 Tahoe with a 5.7L. I am replacing the water pump, but am having trouble removing the threaded on fan from the old water pump. I finally removed the water pump with the fan and pulley still on the water pump, as I was unable to lock the rotation of the pump to remove the large nut screwed to the pump. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I use a Pneumatic clutch fan removal tool with the pump still in the vehicle. You might be able to use a C clamp to clamp it in place? Or are you able to lock the impeller in a vice? When you do get it locked down you will want to put your wrench on and smack it with a soft hammer to break it free (watch out it doesn't fly at you).

If you can't get it you can always head down to a local garage and I am sure they can seperate them for you.

Wayne, thank you for this info.
Are the threads for the fan CW to tighten, and CCW to loosen?
Thanks again.

I removed my fan last night, by using a large set of adjustables on the fan nut and a large flat screw driver jammed through the pully nuts and locked under the AC pump pully, a quick counterclockwise tug on the adjustables and it was loose, hope this helps
