I need to change out my spider injector assembly on my 97 5.7L Vortec engine and I've already searched and found lots of good info.....tonight I went to get started on the job and found what I think is just an error in the service book I have, because I didn't see it mentioned anywhere online. However, it could be right, since all of the most detailed info online has been for the V-6 engine, so I wanted to verify before I either make a mistake or end up doing extra work for nothing.....that brings me to the real question:

Can anyone tell me if the upper intake has coolant in it or not?

The book says drain the coolant down as though it does run through the upper intake, but I would expect someone to have mentioned that somewhere on the net if it where realy necessary.
The shop I had diagnose the miss was nice enough to print the Alldata info for me on the repair without me even asking for it, but it only says to "remove the upper intake per service manual" (kinda vague)

Thanks in advance!

they recomend to drain the coolant for removal of the t-stat housing. It makes removal of the upper plenum a little easier. But it can be done without removing the housing. which means no coolant draining needed.

I took a chance and just pulled it apart - it was pretty easy to lift the upper intake without draining the coolant......
The truck runs like champ again...or it did for a week or 2 till the front end had a close encounter with a utility pole  .....now I have and even bigger project.....
