I own a 97 chevy Tahoe and I have to pump the gas pedal a few times while cranking the engine over to start it and after about 5 seconds it starts but I also get a strong odor of gas coming from the tailpipe while the car is running, I could really use the help to figure out what is wrong with my Tahoe it order to fix it and plus the check engine light is on also, and the car run rough at idle also

Need to have the codes read at a parts store, Auto Zone will do for free, Don't buy anything till report back and give us the EXACT code #'s. Don't need the definitions unless they want to give them to you, we can look up the codes and go from there. May have a fuel delivery problem but I am assuming it has more than one code. Get the check book out.

Sounds like it is flooding, some simple testing can help before randomly replacing parts.

Codes are good to check for first.

Second, I would check fuel pressure/ bleedoff/ etc.

Ohming out of the CTS near the water neck would also be good.
