Hello, i have a bone stock 97 tahoe, i have replaced encoder, tccm, and actuator...all new...when i plug #2 fuse in with key off the tcase starts shifting and will keep shifting unles i pull fuse again... and soon as i pull the fuse it stops in any given range, and the front axle is engaged if it happened to shift into a 4wd range, and the buttons dont do squat

Unplug the swtich on the dash, replace fuse, still shift?

Check control wiring for chaffing and shorts.

I appreciate the reply lester, i unpluged the switch an stuck the fuse in, encoder still hunts with key off, and im not saying the wires are good, i just couldnt find anything visible inside or out, and i forgot to mention an important bit of info...when the fuse is in and the encoder is hunting
, when i turn the key on it stops shifting as well

You replaced the motor or the encoder? I would suspect encoder or the control module on the steering column at this point......

AFAIK the "encoder" is separate from the "motor", the encoder as I understand it is on the other side of the tcase? The encoder will tell the tcase what position it is in and where to stop.... Is yours this way? Encoder has 6 wires "RIGHT SIDE CENTER OF CASE"

Gotcha, did you get the encoder keyed right on the shaft?
