So I have a 96 tahoe LT and I need to replace the steering gearbox. The problem I'm coming across is getting the pitman arm uncoupled from the link bar. It won't disconnect from the link bar and I cant get any tools around the bolt. I have a tie rod end puller and a pitman arm puller along with a pickle fork tool and none of them have worked so far. I'm at a loss as to what needs to be done to do this. I dont have the money to just take it to a shop. any suggestions?

did you mean to ask this in the 2000-2006 forum?

I had to do this to my 94 Suburban. I used the puller. Sumbch was on there tight and when it popped off it made a loud noise. Scared the hell out of me. I nearly destroyed the tip of the puller. That tip had a point on it and I smashed it screwing it down. My buddy slapped me and had me put a small nut between the screw and pitman arm. That is what did the trick.
