My 96 tries to engage 4wd randomly on its own once its warm do these have the thermo actuator? It has the push button system. Once i yank the fuse it doesnt do it. When you are driving all of a sudden you hear a grinding noise like a ticking then while your stopping it will make a bang and be fine again for a minute then it will try again once your driving. I dont want to throw parts at it any one have any ideas on what i should check thank you

that dont sound like an actuator issue

But i have been wrong before!

usually when the actuator is bad it blows fuses but anything can happen with these trucks

there are three things that can cause this 1. the actuator 2. the lower switch that changes 4wd gears 3. the push button system might be ****ty because of how old it is that will cost you about 95$ from autozone then u can just replace it yourself.
