I have a 95 Tahoe. It starts just fine but when you open the throttle too much, it wants to die out. I changed the distributor, cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and the fuel filter. I tested the fuel pressure but it was where the filter connects. The truck is throwing a 12 engine code. I have a new air filter as well. If anyone can give me a hand on trying to figure it out, it would be appreciated.

You have a TBI system, so the fuel pressure would be harder to test. A 12 engine code would be no pulse from distributor (usually attained when pulling codes without engine running)....

I would suspect the fuel pump if you pulled the codes with engine off, you do need to verify if you are getting good fuel pressure 12PSI give or take a bit. If it is too low like around 9PSI it wont run well.

Also a plugged cat can cause issues like that, if you could unbolt that and see how it runs you could eliminate that also threadding a vac fitting into the O2 sensor bung and reading PSI back pressure of much of ANYTHING and you could condem the CAT as well..... Check temps of the CAT, that also could condem...

I have a '95 Yukon 5.7L TBI that had a similar problem. It turned out that the timing was way out. I would start there since it was the last place I looked and all it really needed.

Hope this helps
