Having issues with my 4WD system, yet again. I recently changed out the front axle actuator because my system wouldnt engage. The other day I changed out the fuses for my transfer case and 4x4, the panel on the side of the dash. Turn my ignition over to start and everything was fine. A few hours later I went to drive and my service 4WD light came on and the was a bunch on clicking noises coming from the center of my dash. I tried putting different fuses back in and it still the same. If I put the ignition in RUN and pull that transfer case fuse that light goes off though. Or if I pull the 4WD fuse in the OFF position than start the vehicle the light doesn't turn on. Need help with figuring out what and where something went wrong.

It sounds to me like you have a dead short somewhere in the harness. I would begin down on the side of the transfer case itself and trace all the wiring going to and from the tc to make sure that none of the harness connectors are damaged or wiring is pinch somewhere. Then trace the harness under the dash for the same thing.

Start there and see if you an find the source of the issue.

Followed the wires, no pinch wires. Pulled the transfer case fuse and tapped on the TCCM with a screw driver, put the fuse back in and the service light stayed off. I even cycled OFF/RUN a few times and it didnt come back on. Should I replace the TCCM and the push button switch? When I press 4HI i hear the front axle actuator engage but shouldnt I hear something louder? Or should I just hear the actuator moving when I switch from 4HI to 2HI and visa versa?

If the push button switch in the dash was bad, it would flash when attempting to put it in 4x without anything happening underneath the truck. So I doubt you need to replace that. It could be that you may just need to clean, dry and apply dielectric grease to the plugs at the TCCM and so forth. I would try that before replacing anything and see if the issue repeats itself. Then if it does repeat itself, start by replacing the TCCM first.

Alright thanks. Ill try getting that thing out of there today. Its a tight squeeze. All of the parts stores want more for the core charge then the actual cost of the part. :peace:

Same issue

Since the last post ive been told that the harness on the transfer case is shorting out. A shop also said that they have to drop my transfer case in order to change out the harness. Im going to save some money and do it myself. How do I find out if I have the 4L60 or 4L80 transfer case?
