4 Wheel Drive Buttons lights off and not working

I have a 2003 Tahoe and the 4WD would go into neutral every once in a while. Later, it put itself in 4 Lo and took some work to get out. Now all the lights are off completely.

Any things to check before taking it to a dealer?

It's been suggested it came unplugged in the dash or to check the control module on the top of the front axle, fuses, etc.

Are these good suggestions/any others?

2WD, 4WD swtich

I am having similar issues. Light switched from 2WD to 4WD Low, however tranny stayed in 2WD, but acceleration was affected as though motor was stalling out. And another time the amber 2WD light changed to red? Still no 'check engine' light? You had to push harder on accelerator to get going, and shift from 2nd to 3rd, et. Once in overdrive on interstate all was OK, however 4WD Low was still lit up. Got home, cut off, restarted about an hour later and 2WD was lit up again. And drove perfectly. I hear this contol module switch has to be replaced?
