2013 Interior door grab issue

The grab handle (part of the interior door panel) is suddenly flexible and coming apart. The top section which is the softer vinyl lifts up easily exposing the parts inside. Looks like there is a white plastic reinforcement that used to be one piece and is now two.
Is there a thread here that describes repairing this?

I just purchased a 2013 SSV with a broken grab handle and when I asked Chevy about purchasing just that part I was told it is not sold separately, only with a complete door panel at $450! I believe you can pull the door panel and release the grab handle part from the back of the panel. Then figure out how to repair the broken part if possible. Mine is already broken and torn off so I will have to replace the whole panel unless I can find the part or door panel in a junk yard.

yup, it's broken

I ended up pulling the soft upper pad off the bottom part, laying a single strip of wood in the cavity and carefully wrapping the grab with black electricians tape.
It doesn't look terrible and it actually feels pretty solid.
Really bad design, ugh.
