Hello All-
I'm new here as I just sold my beast of a truck and went with a Tahoe. I used to have an '08 Denali and loved it but have had an eye for the police Tahoe's for a few years. I just love the way they are lowered, have a higher governed speed, tons of little extras. I finally found a good deal on a used one still under warranty and I bit the bullet. It does have a few inconvenient options for the civilian user, the rear door handles, locks and windows are inoperable. I took the rear door off to discover the handle is just unhooked and the lock rod has been cut. I am ordering new lock rods since they are only $3 a piece. I am stumped on the window though :help: . The wiring harness is plugged in. Could this be a dummy switch or is something else unplugged somewhere else. The rear windows work from the driver's position and I don't see any obvious jumpers or anything in the rear switch that would keep it from working. The build option is "6N5". Anyone have any idea on this or have dealt with this before?
Thanks,

Welcome to the neighborhood!

I believe you may have a bad "lock-out" switch on the driver's panel. It is the switch that keeps anyone but the driver from rolling the windows down. You may want to start there...

Thanks, I am trying to track down a wiring diagram then I plan to pull the driver door off too. I believe now that it has something to do with that lock out switch. the passenger window will work with its own switch regardless of the lock out switches position. Someone at the dealership today told me it was controlled by the BCM and wanted 59.95 to look at the computer and he guessed about $119 to reflash it to see if that would cure it. I am hesitant to believe that the windows are controlled through the BCM.

Actually, they can be controlled by the BCM. When installing a new driver door control panel for whatever reason, it is quite common to have to have the Dealership re-program the new one to work properly. However, $59 just to check and then another $119 to do the reflash is excessive. The local Chevy dealer here would charge $85 to do both.

Thanks, I will have to look into that. I pulled the driver side switches as well and don't see anything obvious to the naked eye. I am going to turn it over to the experts next week pending any discoveries on this forum.

Tahoe PPV rear doors' window switches are different from civilian's type, the switches have NO internal electric contacts. See the picture, the metal contacts are missing in the rubber piece.

Just get new a new switch and replace the PPV's. When you buy switch from dealer, make sure to ask civilian's type, otherwise you may get a PPV type switch again.

Also, PPV missing a Driver Info Center switch, you can get a switch from dealer for $15, the switch wire harness is behind the bezel, all you need to do is cut-open a rectangle opening on the bezel for the switch and connect harness to the switch.

Feel free to ask question for Tahoe PPV.

Thanks for the help. I have been out of town and unable to get on this website from my work computer. I took my switch apart and the connectors do not look like that. I am going to try to order a new rear switch though and see if that fixes the problem. The part number on the switch I have installed though matches the regular part number for the regular civilian switches. I wonder if the front cluster might have something to do with it. Even with the window lock engaged the passenger can still control his/her window. I wonder if somehow that could be permanently engaged for the rear windows. I will try the new switch first, it will be the cheapest solution by far.

As far as the DIC switches. Will those unlock the ability to check fuel mileage and such like on other Tahoe models or is that a different software package all together?

THIS DIC should give you alomost same function as civilian Tahoe modle's, but some function may not be active via this switch, you need a PCM or BCM re-programming. But this DIC switch will give yo more function than without the switch.

Can you send me some pictures for your window switch (inertanl and external), let me take a look and I may give you some simple sulotion.

LOOKS LIKE the switch is a civilian version, take a look at rubber piece, there is no metal contacts on it.

You need a civilian version switch, costs around $15 from eBay.

ok, thanks for the help. Do you know about the radios in the 2009s? I know I have the base model radio and am wondering if there is a USB port on the back for plugging in aux.

There is no USB port on base model radio, but there is a MIC port on its front panel as smart phone aduio input.

The DVD/Radio model has a mini USB port and 2 memory card slots on its front panel. Since you have PPV Tahoe, if you want restore it to civilian model completely, you need be ready for a check book.

Here is the short list:

Radio/DVD, front towing hooks, rear towing hitch, roof luggage rack, DIC button, 3rd row seat, fog/driving lights, headliner strage area, center console, regrogramming BCM to restore some remote, lighting, alarm and instrument cluster function, GPS antenna, ......

If you want convert civilian version to PPV one, it would be much easy, for example: change springs, shock and tire to low the body, you are done.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pick it up for? I too love the look of those trucks.

I purchased it from State Police public auction.

You can check your state government surplus web site, you may get a good deal, the price is $1500 - $2000 below used car dealer's.

I picked mine up for $18k. 2009 with 12k miles. There are some things I have done and am doing to make it a little more civilian. But there are things that it has that you can't do to a civilian, cost effectively at least. The PPV has pre-wired power points for you to hook your lights or accessories to. It also has a transmission cooler, oil cooler, heavy duty A/C unit and 160 amp alternator.

I think you got a very good deal for that mileage and price.

Thread bump...

Does anyone have a valid part number for the silver vent trim with the DIC cutout? I've tried several online parts and other sites, but no good so far - 2012 PPV.

I picked up a woodgrain piece on ebay with the switches in there for mine, there is a blank on the back of the alum trim that holds the wire connector in place. Also, on my 07 SSV that I had, the rear window switches were disassembled and had electrical tape over the contacts and reassembled. The door pull cables were simply disconnected.
