2008 chevy tahoe hybrid

i was driving through a intersection and my tahoe died out i pulled over and i then had to have it towed because it wouldnt start and the check engine light is on now . others have told me its the hybrid battery but the battery light never came on , on the dash does anyone have a clue what might be wrong
