Hi list-

First time poster here but figured his would be a good place to get some help. I am the new owner of a 07 Tahoe LT with 4x4. With new ownership comes new problems which conveniently didnt surface on the test drive.

Love the ride so far but I've noticed a slight thump or thud or kick from underneath on takeoff from a stop. It sounds like it is coming from transmission/drive train related but I dont know. It is hard to reproduce as it doesnt happen every time you take off. I have noticed that it seems much more prevalent when making a left turn from a stop. The noise comes-if at all- within the first few seconds of acceleration. This is while the truck is still well within first gear and is not a 1-2 shift issue.

I had a mechanic ride along and while I really couldn't reproduce a good example for him - it must have been in test drive mode still! - he said that what I'm describing sounded less like tranny problems and more like a part of the traction control/rear differential on these vehicles.

If the problem continues I'm going to take it to the dealer but I was hoping for an idea before I do that. Any thoughts or similar issues would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I second what the mech said - traction control. Try disabling it and see if the noise occurs. If you recently bought it, the dealer should be able to diagnose and repair at no cost.

i had the same problem with my 07 yukon and i took it to the dealersip and they replaced my slip yoke. it is a common problem on the 07 's and 08's. a lot of owners go out and buy a zinc coated one because they last longer. however if it isn't under warranty (or you don't want to spend too much) you can get them lubricated for a temporary fix.

My experience was the same as 07deputy's. The dealer "lubricated" the yoke and it permanently fixed the problem on my '08 (at least i never noticed it again).

I have seen this issue on all year models as well, not just the 07+ and not just on the Tahoes. Good info to have indeed...

265000 miles and it still thuds. But no problem.

2000 Tahoe 265000 miles still does the thud occasionally at about same frequency it always has but nothing ever became of it. Seems to not shift down when slowing down and coming to a stop, then tries to start off in high gear. Just let off it immediately and it shifts down immediately. Bear down on accellator and it struggles to accelerate, then shifts with a heavy thud. No big deal.
This has been a phenominally trouble free car.

Exactly, every automatic Chevy I have owned has done that as well. Most prevalent when coming to a stop on an incline.
