Hey I am new to the forum.

I recently purchased a used tahoe. Everything has been great for about a month then 2 weeks ago the DVD player stopped working. I got in the car and turned it on and the movie was playing, but you have to eject it and put it back in to make it play on the back screen for some reason, so I ejected it and put it back in...well it never started back up and no matter how many dvds I try I can't get it to play. It will sit and load for a minute or two then just not play. It doesn't pop up with an error message or anything though.

Any idea on what it could be? My wife is going to drop it off at the dealership later today I believe so i was trying to figure out if its an easy fix I can do or if they are about to charge me a grand to fix this thing.

Thanks,

Sean

Oh and the rear passenger door won't open from the inside

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Have you tried to use a disc head unit cleaner? It sounds as if it needs cleaned, possibly.

My wife took it to the dealer and they looked and said a piece was broken inside the disc drive and they were going to charge $1600 to replace it. Then they went ahead and charged her $50 for looking at it that they didnt tell me about when I called. I understand the $50 just wish they told me beforehand.

But what the heck to the $1600?!? Anybody know if you can buy just the disk drive by itself?

How long did it take for them to "Diagnose" that something was broken inside? That sounds odd, although things do break, it is rare. I am also not sure what the actual cost of a new unit like yours actually is, but if it were mine I would install an aftermarket replacement unit and go from there, for that kind of money you could probably find a MUCH better setup.

My wife said they looked at it for 10 minutes. I was kinda suspicious that them saying to replace it was there way of saying they weren't exactly sure and they didn't care to take the time to figure it out.

I'm not sure if I should take it to another better dealer around here or just go for something aftermarket. It's got the nav and everything so idk what all would have to be replaced.

Thanks for responding by the way man

I think what you say is a typical dealer response to a broken head unit. Ive gone to the dealer with several vehicles for various issues not under warranty. The standard diagnosis fee has been $50 regardless if it took 5 minutes or an hour. So that sounds about right. As far as them saying to replace it, thats what i expect. They arent in the business of taking apart the electronic components and fixing them. They just swap it out. I know it sucks, but thats pretty standard. I would either find a small local electronics repair shop that can actually work on the unit, or look at replacing it with aftermarket.

I found a link on here awhile back for a wiring harness that would allow the rear screen in the tahoe to work with an aftermarket nav in dash unit. (oem unit messed up) does anybody know where I can find that wiring harness or how to make this work?

Thanks
