My 2006 Tahoe has a left front brake locking up causing the ABS light to come on and also gives me a service stability message and disables the stability control. Left brakes is growling and it feels like ABS is trying to kick in and steering wheel jerks. Any ideas as to what this might be?

If your sure its the left side locking up and you can feel or see that the caliper on that side isnt releasing the brake on that side it can be anything from a bad brake caliper... a collapsed brake rubber hose the one that connects to the caliper... or even a bad ABS brake pressure modulator valve. . I would start with the rubber hose.. what happens when its collapsed it acts like a check valve... the brake pedal pressure force is very high so the fluid goes thru and stays trapped in the caliper causing the brakes to stay applied on that side however when you release the brake there is no brake pressure force allowing the fluid to return and releasing the caliper

I can't see the caliper releasing. I did feel of the hose and compared it to the right one. It didn't feel like it had any soft spots in it

Your going to need to jack up the front end and see if that left front tire spins freely.. you wont be able to tell if the line is collapsed by felling it it would be collapsed internally with no change to the exterior part of the hose.. dont know your inclination of mechanical skills but your going to need to crack some brake lines to see whats going on and then bleed the brake system to test it to see were failure my lye

If a brake line is the problem how can you tell by breaking the lines loose. I understand what you were talking about with it acting like a check valve. If that is the case how can you tell by breaking the lines loose? Wouldn't you need to be able to see if thesystem was sucking the fluid back.

First start by having someone apply the brake pedal with a good relative force then crack open the bleeder valve on the caliper of the suspected side have the person that is helping you push all the way down on the brake pedal as you open the bleeder valve observe the amount of brake fluid that is released.. have them maintain the brake pedal applied because its going to go all the way down to the floor once all the way down close the bleeder vavle because if they release it before you close the valve it will get air in the system.. then go and do the same on the other side to see if the fluid release is the same or different... let me know what you get

I'm not able to do it at the moment. I will be working on it sometime this afternoon. I will repost later. I'm probably going to buy a caliper and a brake line.
