2004 Tahoe Intermediate shaft

Hi I got that clunking noise going on, i was thinking about unhooking the shaft under the engine and compressing it a few times to work the grease in some. My questions is do i need the steering column anti rotation pin to do this? I have ordered it online as I am intended on replacing the shaft eventually.

We (The GM dealer i work for) usually replace just the intermediate shaft no other parts are needed just the shaft.

i did this yesterday read it on a forum!! took 10 minutes works amazing...take bolt out of shaft..seperate shaft..****DONT LET STEERING WHEEL SPIN**** couple inches ok...slide shaft up up towards steering wheel and back down sorta slow about 15-20 times ....reassemble...clunk is gone!!!!....like i said i did it yesterday works perfect

Yea piece of cake...I did mine today. wont really know till I go camping this weekend. I really only hear or feel it till im on gravel. Still gonna replace it eventually, found one at rockauto for like 50 bucks.

our 03 Z71 Tahoe clunks sometimes in the front end. I wonder if this is what it is. Is this the shaft going into the steering box from the steering collum?
Could you post a pic to be sure?
