Hello all. I am new to this forum but have been on the 2007+ ( I had an 08 which I just sold) forum for the past year or so.

Here is my issue: Just purchased a 2002 2500 Sub from a chevrolet dealer in Northwest Pennsylvania. The Burb, Victory Red, looks absolutely mint inside and out (55K miles). It was well loved by its previous owner and clearly garaged and maintained. Never painted and gleams like showroom new.

There is no evidence of rust on the body of the car but the frame and rear diff housing look awful. If there ever was paint on them, it is long gone and they are completely rust covered. No rust through, some flaking metal in limited locations. Almost the whole frame is covered with at least a thin layer of rust.

I am trying to figure out if I am being overly paranoid about the rusty frame. Is this common with the 2000-2006 Tahoe/Suburban? Do you other rust belt owners out there have rust on your frames? Should I be worried about this? Is the rusty rear diff cover and housing a concern? If so, would you all recommend having a mechanic or a body shop take a look at it.

Thanks.

Matt

Well my 02 is from the Midwest. I wouls also call that snow belt. My frame looks now where near the way you describe yours.

As for if there is an issue for you to worry of, I dont have a response to that. I would however suggest that if you are overly concern, you can purchase some rust inhibitors like POR15 and coat your exposable frame with that.

Go buy some por-15 and paint your frame, nothing is wrong they just get surface rust and the frames are more exposed on the 3/4 tons.

I beleive GM warrants rust w.o having any written warranty on vehicles with less than 70,000 miles just look at the owners manual towards the end
