2001 Tahoe with computer climate AC stops then works after sitting a day

I have a 2001 Tahoe with computer climate control. When I start the engine the AC will blow cold air but blows hot air after 20 to 30 minutes. If it sits overnight then it will work again but the problem repeats. Is this a major repair?

Could just need freon. Usually a pressure sensor shuts off the A/C when it detects low pressure on the low side, seen some go bad and wouldn't reset until after a time...

Haven't had it checked it but after 12 years a little loss of Freon would sound reasonable.
