Hello,I have a 2000 tahoe,I have had a problem with it stalling two days in a row but it would crank back up,now it stalls and will not crank back up until it cools down,so I put a new fuel filter, fuel relay, fuel pressure regulator,it still has the problem, when its cold it cranks right up runs fine until it warms up and stalls and will not crank back up,anyone experienced this,or know what my problem my be,I could really use the help.thanks Bryant

Why are you changing all those parts?

Take it in have the codes read?

What does "will not crank back up" mean?

It wont start again?
The engine wont turn over as if the battery is low or dead?

If it turns over ok but dont start try this, turn your key off then back on allow the fuel pump to cycle then before you try to start turn the key off then back on again, do this a few times force the fuel pump to cycle 3-4 times before starting if it starts then you know your fuel pump is going bad.

Thanks for the reply.when its cold it cranks up and runs fine.after it warms up it will stall, when you try to crank it back up it just spins. over,I've done exactly what your saying, you can hear the pump running, there's a valve on the fuel line under the hood that has fuel pressure ,I let the fuel pressure out turn it over a couple times and the pressure is back,so I know the pump is running when I turn the key.the tahoe is at my house,so if I drive any where I will be stranded again, the parts store told me that the code reader will not see a bad fuel pump anyway, anything I can try.Bryant

You can't really diagnose the fuel pressure without a pressure gauge. These engines won't run if there isn't enough pressure, but there may still be enough pressure that the fuel will squirt out of the schrader valve on the fuel rail.

So your saying check the fuel pressure,ok,but why does it run fine until it warms up,to me it seems like it might be a electrical problem.maybe?

I had my fuel pump go out recently. The fuel pressure would go up to normal, and I could start the engine and run it for about 30 seconds before it would die (the pressure dropped off after that). There are a bunch of different ways the pump can fail.

One test I did was I took out the fuel pump relay and used my test meter as a jumper - I had it set to read the Amps being drawn by the pump. My pump only drew about 2.5A, which is pretty low, and the current dropped off after a few seconds.

You are right, your problem sure does sound like the problems we used to have with cars from the 1980s where the ignition module would heat up and stop working. You might want to check for spark once the engine dies. If you have spark, then the next thing to check is fuel.

You can also look in the fuse/relay panel under the hood - on mine there are a couple of other relays that have the same part number as the fuel pump relay so you can swap the relays - it could be that your fuel pump relay is going bad, it's a pretty cheap fix and easy to try.

If the fuel pressure is ok, then you don't have to worry about replacing the pump, at least.

Good luck!

I just checked my fuel pressure, rented one from autozone.it was 45lbs,so I guess my fuel pump is bad?autozone says the pressure needs to be between 85-100lbs does that sound right?
