OK here we go, just bought a 2000 BASE model tahoe. Roll up windows and rubber mats, 4.8, and not real well taken care of.
Drivers upper ball joint was nearly driven through to arm, front Ujoint in the front driveshaft was dry and coming apart, etc.
I did an oil change, and I'm slowly fixing what I find wrong.
Currently runs great with 105K miles.
Now the issues
No O/D, and you need to bring the rpm's up to 1500 or so to get the truck move most of the time. Shifts smooth 1-3 however. I haven't checked or changed the tranny fluid or filter yet.
She also has some pretty ugly elect issues.
1. Fuel gauge reads when it wants. Drops to empty and the low fuel light comes on. 5 mins later it'll show correctly for a few mins then drop back to E again. Doesn't bounce or fluctuate.
2. Check engine light is on, use an auto parts store code reader and no one can get it to work. Code reader doesnt pick the truck up. Like it's not even plugged in.
All other gauges work fine, no bouncing etc.
