It is recommended that you do your first oil change at around 1500 miles so as to get any residue out left from manufacturing. So I'd change it ASAP.

Now that he is past that and planning a change, is it okay to go Synthetic? How long (miles) before you should convert to syn oil?

Some folks even recommend first change at 500 mi. As to going to synthetic, any time is fine.

You should do your switch to Mobil 1 at its normal interval (3000-5000). You have to allow the engine to break in before doing the switch. I know some memeber did thiers at 100, 500, 2000,etc. but to me those number are a little to close for comfort.

Urban legend. :yesnod:

Agreed^ You don't have to wait for engine break-in before switching to synthetic. That is a myth that was started by the conventional oil manufacturers back in the 70's. It's never too early to switch to synthetic.

Urban legend. :yesnod:

I manage a fleet of vehicle and deal soley with royal purple. the rep I deal with has recommened that we allow the engine to break in properly before doing the switch. If this was urban legend he would have recommened that we swtiched right off the bat. Also all my mechanic agree. Urban legend or not I've had no probelms and highly recommend syntheic oil (Mobil 1 or RP).
