I have a 99 Tahoe that I am having intermittent electrical problems with. I will be driving down the road and the vehicle will randomly shut on/off and while it is doing this I lose all electical power(not just engine) It is very quick on and off. Most of the time it stalls the vehicle. I can restart the vehicle with no problems. However i noticed when I restart the vehicle right after this occurs transmission shifting is clunky. If I shut the vehicle off and let it sit for 10 mins the clunky transmission shifting goes away. I think this is due to the computer being reset prematurely during power failures?
Anyhow, I checked all my ground wires. I found one 2 months ago on the left side frame to chassis that was rotted off. I replaced it thinking this was the problem I was searching for! However to my dismay it did again the other day. I am very concerned about this because of losing headlights at night when it does it!
Are there any relays that would cause this problem? Could it be a bad alternator, battery, ignition switch? I am really getting frustrated with this problem as I dont know what to look for next. I read these vehicles have problems with ignition switches. What happens when they go bad?
