My son has a 1998 Tahoe it is lifted and has 315/75/16 tires on it. The steering on this thing is very erratic, it is the worst while at higher speeds in slow gradual sweeping turns it wil all of a sudden just dart or slip very uncomforatable feeling. I have done the evo bypass on the back of the power steering pump, all new Moog front end parts, idler arm, pitman arm, tie rod ends, ball joints. I installed a new power steering gear, i installed a new Rancho steering stabalizer and have had it alligned twice. Any ideas need help. Does anyone know it you can retro fit 95 gear and pump and does it solve the problem.

Thanks Bret

Steering column position sensor.

Look under the column near the column support bracket. There's a donut shaped sensor. That's your problem.
It supplies info to the evo sensor for speed sensitive steering. Had the same problem with my 97. Replacement sensor is around 30 bucks at vato-zone and is about 30 minutes of labor.

If you've got any further questions feel free to shoot me a pm. I'll be as much help As I can.

**** just read the evo is bypassed. This is real odd. These are these exact symptoms of a bad SCPS.

Try replacing the rag joint or steering shaft all together?
Jack the front end of the truck up enough to get the the tires off the ground. Put it on jack stands and have someone wiggle the steering wheel. See if the steering shaft matches what the wheel is doing. I'm in the process of seeing if a solid jeep shaft will bolt on too our trucks. If it does I'll post info. It'd be nice to eliminate the rag joint.

I've also asked if the pump and box can be swapped out for something less finicky. No reply yet.

Any info on the evo bypass?
