Can anyone provide pointers on removing the power door locks on a 97 Tahoe? Someone stuck toothpicks covered in superglue :mad2: into all three locks on my sons Tahoe. I want to pull the locks so I can try soaking them in Acetone to try to break down the superglue. If that does not work we will need to replace them all so I still need to figre out how to remove them.

Thanks.

What a lame thing to do.

What ever happened to the old sugar-in-the-gas-tank style pranks?

I cant address your problem, but someone here will be able to.

Welcome to the forum, sorry we had to meet like this.

Wow, what a cowardly thing to do. Sorry I can't offer any advice, hopefully you can fix that without much damage to the vehicle. Take care!

Thanks for the link. I will see if I can get them pulled this weekend. Going to have to install a security camera too since someone keyed :mad2: the truck last night.

ahh that sucks man.. well ill tell ya what, try hard to acetone em, bcuz there expensive. not too bad, but 50 bucks a lock. so 150 your tihnking around.. i had to do it to mine. what i did was take the door panel off, 2 small bolts holding the handle in, then pulled out the handel, undid a little clip that was holding the lock in, then put the new one in, wasnt bad at all, just be careful u dont break any clips (ie the ones connecting all the rods).. but overall not, but what what a waste of money.. everyones jealous they dont drive a hoe i guess..

Any tips on getting the cylinder out? I have the handle out and thought there would be a clip and the cylinder would pop out. No such luck. Now I am wodnering if the super glue is holding the cylinder in.

Sas,

Do you have a link to the place you got your replacement cylinders from? After 3 hours of soaking I was able to get the cylinder out. After 12 more hours of soaking the cylinder still does not work. I took the cylinder apart and I am able to peel the glue that I can get at, but the rest is not dissolving.

For now I would just like to replace the drivers side cylinder with a new one. I am assuming a locksmith can set it to match the current key.

I would go to the auto wreckers for the door locks, and then to the locksmith. The locksmith should be able to set your locks to your key for a reasonable price and the locks shouldn't cost much at the wreckers. I've used lacquer thinner to remove super glue, although I would have thought acetone would have worked.

Progress. Pulled the back handle and soaked it today. Got that cylinder to work!!! Now if I can get it to pop out I should be able to put it in the drivers side door and have at least one working cylinder.

well thats good.. ahh it was a local locksmith who did mine.. do you have keyless?? if so why dont your keep these inoperable so then you know.. if someone drills to drill em out or do this same stupid prank again, you wont have to pay again.. i think that would be the best thing. jsut make sure u have 2 or 3 key fobs..
