I recently bought 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ and made already about 700 miles - mostly in the city. I started with really bad MPG rating and slowly it's been going up to where it's now - 11.7 MPG. I love my truck but I'm kind of disappointed with that rating which is not even close to sticker rating - 15/16 MPG city. I just kind of wonder if anybody else got the same rating or maybe there is something wrong with my car???? Or maybe it will still go up??? I'm running this car on Mobile gas - 87 octanes and drive it normally (not too fast, not too slow).

i had that same problem... when i looked at the average mpg when i bought the truck it said 9ish. now it has 1500 miles (500 road trip and other about half and half highway and city) and it reads 13.7. so its should go up, just dont be "donkey stoping" it around town and you should be good in the 14s or so pretty soon

Welcome, and yeah, fuel economy tends to suck.

Averaged 9ish on my 6.2L 6-speed Denali. Learned to keep my foot out of it, but also did a few things to help: I got a Mobil1 synthetic oil change, run 93 octane, got me a Volant CAI, an Edge Evolution programmer. Now I can get 15+MPG taking it very slow-and-easy around town; but I typically see 13.5 or so. I've got like 9K miles on mine.

Spirited driving will definitely get you the crappy mileage. It'll get better... :yesnod:

Same here, at first I was getting 12.9mpg and after 5k it went up to 14.5 city only. After a few upgrades (CAI, headers ant superchips tuner) Im getting 16mpg city and on a 300 mi highway drive I got 21.4mpg. Of course, I drive it like grandma:shhh: , everytime I put my foot to the pedal :nono: , it comes down to about 13 city, 16hwy.

I average about 9.6 in the city and about 13.7 on the highway. But I have 35's on my tahoe. Before the lift kit I was averaging about 14 in the city and about 18-19 on the highway or course with an intake, tb spacer and exhaust. I miss those days... :smilielol:

I have 07 LTZ 4WD w/4500 miles and BFG's 285/55/20 (more inertia required) with 2" leveling kit, 1" rear (more air drag). My DIC Average stayed around 13.8ish. When I put the Volant and Magnaflow cat back it went up to 14.0... I also have never reset my DIC Avg since new so this is true lifetime Avg.

I believe the Tahoe's fuel ratings is probably based on the smaller LS rims and (low rolling resistance) tires!!! and going downhill with a nice tailwind the whole time.

Just wondering, do you guys reset the AVG Economy DIC counter every time you fuel up, or at some other interval, or never? I reset mine after every fill-up...

I did reset mine a couple of times. First after 1k because I saw it was going up fast so I wanted to see my mpg at that time. Then I did it again before I installed the upgrades and after to compare. Have not since then.

I also did reset mine few times which caused the MPG go down to less than 9 mpg. That's why I don't do it anymore and hope it will continue to go up. I'm planning to install new intake soon, which hopefuly will help too.

I just took a drive from Maryland to Michigan for the holidays (all highway) in hilly Pennsylvania I got 18.6 MPG. In flat as a board Ohio I got 17.2 driving about 65 in both states. I was a little surprised, but I guess it probably spent more time in V4 mode in PA... In the city I average about 14 with moderate driving. I have the Volant intake, so that may have helped a little. Does this sound close to what you guys are getting?

I used to have an 03 Denali which had both Lifetime DIC Average and separate Trip Average.

This feature of having both numbers pretty much went away with the GMT 900s didn't it?

I'm seeing about 15.7, mostly city driving, on our '07 LT 4WD. The single biggest factor for me is how it is driven. My wife and I both drive the speed limit or roughly 5 over, but my wife puts her foot in it, quick off the line, quick acceleration, etc. I try and be a little smoother with things. I've reset the DIC and driven around town averaging 17-18, she'll average 12-13 when she drives.

All those numbers sound really good. I would be really happy to average 13ths. Do any of you have a problem with the take off? In my car it seams that when I hit the floor on the gas pedal from the stop, it chokes for a few second before it picks up. Is that normal or maybe the engine gets too much fuel and that’s my mpg is so low???

Yesterday I reset the AVG Economy DIC counter and since that I used mostly the highway going about 65-80 mph. The AVG Economy DIC counter showes now 13.9 mpg. I think It's still too low, what do you guys think ???

Just drove 200 miles yesterday and averaged 16.4 mpg. We were doing about 70 the entire time. Will update after next weekends 500 mile trip.

I've monitored my mileage using the DIC and the old fashioned math way since day one. The DIC is pretty accurate. I have a life time 16.4 MPG. I've seen 20+ on I95 to the outer banks. I've seen 14.5 towing a trailer around town. My commute is 6 miles of traffic lights. I do see some highway per tank. My 4X4 has NEVER been below 14 for a tank. I do NOT take it easy either.

I can't believe the wide disparity in our mileage.

I'm getting 11.6 with mostly city driving so far and I'm thrilled. I really didn't expect much from the 6.2.

What's your axle ratio?
