Have any of you with 07 + tahoe/yukon had any problems with the rotors? I complained about my rotors a few months ago and took it to the dealership. They said they had fixed the problem but when I picked the truck up I noticed it was doing the same thing so I took it back. They had turned the wrong ones. Maybe I should have noticed something then but didn't. So this time they said that they replaced the front rotors because they were warped. They did this under warranty with 20k miles on the truck. So after picking the vehicle up I've had no problems but now after maybe 10k miles since they were replaced I'm having issues again. So I called the dealership and spoke to the same service guy that I deal with and he tells me that GM had put out something saying that they will not warranty rotors after 12k miles. I said I understand that rotors typically should not be warrantied since it is wear and tear BUT I just had these replaced not even 10k miles ago. He said that there was nothing they could do. So do you think this is fair or what? I've sent so many people there to buy cars it is not funny. I know all the salepeople there at the dealership so I asked one that I had my Dad buy his suburban from and he told me the same thing and also told me that if I would have bought a tahoe from that dealership they would be more willing to help. This pissed me off even more. I saved 13k on buying this yukon than buying a brand new tahoe, so why? I know that all the warranty issues that dealerships have GM takes care of all these so it's not like the dealership is losing money or using their money. So what gives. I guess I have to wait and see what the service manager says when he gets back but I wanted to get some of ya'lls imput on this. I know at least four people that has had the same problem. You would think GM would stand behind their customers instead of coming up with reasons not to. Sorry for the long story but just had to vent.

I'd ask to see in writing where it says that the rotor warranty is only for 12K. They're not a consumable like pads and tires. One could even argue that they're part of the drivetrain and therefore fall under the 100K warranty.

I work at a dealership and the rotors are a "wear and tear" item. Rotors are resurfaced, under warranty, up until 12k miles.
Powertrain warranty covers engine, trans and anything drivetrain only...not rotors!
Btw, they should replace the problematic rotors, atleast once, under warranty. We do!!!

Yeah see they replaced the factory rotors AFTER 12k miles. I had about 20k plus when they were done and now I have 31k . I understand the whole wear and tear, the thing I don't understand is that I just got them replaced within 10k miles ago and now they are doing it again. I think it is crazy and it seems that I'd have to fork out $100 plus evry 10k miles to turn the rotors. I have no clue on how much it would be to replace the rotors if I had to on my own. It just seems that when I brake hard the steering shakes and that was the same thing I noticed before which the dealership said was the rotors. Thanks for your replies.

The rotors were replaced as a "goodwill" to you, and I am sure they had to answer to the area service manager that works for gm for doing that.

The "problem" is the brake pads are a really agressive compound that wears the rotor. They did release a new front pad for this problem, but it still wears the rotors some. It really is a catch 22, if you put too soft of a brake pad on it, it will wear the pads quick and cause large amounts of brake dust. If you put too hard of a pad on it, it will wear the rotors and the pad will last forever.

I think the problem is OEM rotors are cheap off-shore crap. They're too thin so hard braking makes them heat up and warp. You take them to get fix, and what do they do? They turn them down making them even thinner. I have an 07, and mine are warpped too. The solution is to get yourself a set of quality rotors. They don't have to be slotted and cross-drilled. A good set of Wagner rotors will cure the problem. I put a set on my Jeep, along with Wagner Thermo-Quiet ceramic pads and they're like silk. I've had problems with Chevy rotors in the past. I had an Impala that advertised the largest front rotors in its class. The warpage got so bad that a high speed brake would almost shake the wheel out of my hand. Again, the solution there was to dump the OEM crap, and use a "standard" but quality front rotor.

Having the same rotor problem and the dealer quoted the 12k mile thing. It's not too bad right now, but I am looking for new aftermarket rotors.

You think he's gonna lemon the truck because the rotors warped? The law says a reasonable number of attempts (around 4+) at repair, maybe less for a safety related issue, but I don't think it includes something they could call serviceable. I could help them, I know because I've done it, and figured out how to make it stick.

Or are you just randomly throwing spam around forums?

Yeah I don't know what I'm going to do. I guess I'll wait till the service manager gets back on monday. I understand what you guys are saying but I don't feel like replacing rotors every 10k miles. I went to the dealership today and while I was there I got a printout of everything they had ever done to my truck and other than regular oil changes it has been warranty work. They replaced the rotors at 22,938 miles. I'm currently right at 31k miles. I cannot believe they go bad that quick.

Here is my two cents after the dealer cuts the rotor get a Micrometer and measures the thickness of the rotor and compares it the min thickness cast in to every rotor. I my experience it will be to thin. Now ask your self why did the manufacture put that number their. I have done many brake jobs and driven many different vechials I would bet the caliper has a problem. A good way to tell is the warped sides pad will be thinner. Forget telling the service manager what I just said or trying to get the dealer to fix it bite the bullet and find reputable shop and get the job done right you wife will thank you.

Watch your wheel nut torque and avoid car washes when the brakes are super hot. My Impala has had three sets. Finally on the last set the design changed as they beefed up the rotor some.

Well, the rotor can only be "so" thick. The key I think is properly cooling them, along with using quality material.

Someone once told me that worse thing you can do to a rotor is to get them red hot, and then hold your foot on the pedal for an extended period of time like you might do at a long traffic light.

:shhh:

I agree the wheel should be torque.

I have question my brake is very stiff compared to other vehicles is this normal.

Squeakage = GRRRR

No rotor problems here yet, but some seriously squeaky squealy annoying factory pads. It's at the dealer's right now getting the upgraded pads under warranty (TSB's been out for this for a while).

New pads are silky smooth and so far completely silent... No more head-turning squeakage here! Just in time too, I was starting to get pretty ticked off every time it squeaked.
