The wifes Hoe intermittently makes a very loud metal on metal banging in the front end. It started a lot quieter about a month ago and has gotten progressively worse. We took it out lastnight for approx. 20 miles with no noise. Now this morning it made this noise just going straight down the road. Turning both ways lock to lock doesn't seem to make it do it. I took off the front left wheel, where the noise seems to be coming from. I found nothing loose, no marks on any of the metal components. Also checked all the bushings to make sure they were all still there. Checked torsion bars for any marks were metal might have rubbed. Is it possible the cv joint or the wheel bearing could be making a noise this loud intermittently. Please help, I am totally stuck here. Thanks, Jake

Any time I want
Did you check for looseness in the front wheel with the tire on.. one hand at 12 o'clock and the other hand at 6 o'clock and see if theres looseness when rocking the tire back and forth ?

Yup, I checked for play on both sides, seems fairly tight. I drove it for 3 hrs today, with no noise. Of course when the wife drives it to work tomorrow morning, it will do it all the way to work.hahahaha Never fails

Very loud noise

Sounds like you have a hub bearing going bad mines did the same thing and I check the wheel and all that stuff until it locked my wheel up like someone slammed on the brake....

Yes that is exactly what I mean my truck did the same thing and when I checked it it must have been in a sweet spot because It didn't look or feel bad until it locked up....

Thanks for the info. My next step was to replace the wheel bearing and see what happens. I've never heard of a wheel bearing actually locking up a wheel like that. Now I'm freaked!hahaha Better do it soon. Thanks again
