Hey, newbie here with a couple of questions... First being on my 04 Tahoe, the XM seems to go in and out like there is a loose wire, the sound is still there but there is definetely a connection issue... Second is there seems to be what i think is a miss when driving at 45 to 50 mph... The spedo shakes a little and you feel it but not sure what it is... The car has 86k miles and already had the cluster replaced... Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated... BTW I tried the search before I posted this...

Thanks...

I tried to troubleshoot both issues last night and came up with nothing... I pulled the head unit out to check for any obvious loose connections and to my amazement i found a wire going into the smaller harness that has been taped up as far as i can see... Knowing i purchased this with 4 miles and seeing this, i am bothered that this would come from the factory with this kind of workmanship...

As for the missing issue, i did isolate it to going up hill around 45mph or under higher load than just flat driving... Any imput on this would be greatly appreciated...

my guess would be your antenna on the xm, somthing is blocking the signal.

When the sound goes away, does the song info stay? Or does it say no info?

on your spedo i would go back to who replaced the cluster as they may have done somthing wrong.

The sound on the XM doesnt go away, to be honest is fades in and out kind of like the amp or the hu loosing power but it only happens with xm and not the changer or regular radio...

As for the miss under slight load, i am hoping for it to be plugs as i will be replacing them with the brakes this weekend... Hopefully it will be as easy as working on my m3... Any good diy articles on doing brakes and plugs on a tahoe...

BTW thanks for the reply...

Your "miss" could be tranny related. Perhaps its software might need updating. A competent tranny repair shop can tell you whether your problem is tranny related or is a misfire. Call around and talk to some local tranny shops and see if someone's willing to let you come out and take a test drive w/ you and see if you can duplicate it...many will do this free.
Spark plugs tend to show more problems at higher rpms and load conditions. But it wouldn't hurt to look at them I suppose. I'd try to see if you can duplicate the vibration in other gears, or even w/ the truck stopped and you pressing on the gas to give it some load. Replacement of the plugs is very straight forward.
[EDIT, I misread 1st post.] Are the brakes worn out? Or making noises? Which ones are you doing? The fronts are pretty straight forward to do. The rears have a parking brake drum and hat set up behind the rotor. Many times they'll stick and can cause noises or dragging and removal of the rear rotor may become difficult. The caliper bracket bolts should be loctited when you install them.

Thanks for the great information... Gives me some good routes to explore... As for the breaks, my tahoe has 86k miles and the brakes are starting to squeal... I would rather just replace the pads as all the rotors look fine. I dont want to wait and have to replace the rotors... I just had to replace the rotors on my m3 and since im running turbo porsche brakes on it, i just spent a rather large sum of money on that...
