I just had the same type of symptoms on my 2003 Tahoe (Z71), had the A/C looked at and replaced the compressor----expensive. Take a look under your passenger side while the vehicle is in park and running----you will need to look for the small pulley that will be kind of shielded behind the frame/plastic----if it is looks really greasy or nasty then the clutch on the A/C compressor is melting and if it goes out the the entire then will lock up and then it could cause some majo issues from what I understand. Once I got mine replaced, my A/C is working fine!

Hope this helps!

I have a problem with my AC. Sometimes when I'm driving hot air blows out of the driver's and the middle vent, while cold air comes out of the passenger's side and the rear vents. I've tried turning the AC off then back on, still no change. The only way to stop it is to turn the car off and start it again, then everything goes back to normal. I can't pin point a particular time that it happens. There is no strange noises or any notice that it's going to happen. Any ideas? Is there a sensor that is going bad?

I haev a similar issue as the original poster, but my a/c just turns off above ~85 degrees. It's ice cold till then. I've read other posts too and it sounds like one of the sensors/switches is going out. There are like 3 that it could be. I already replaced my compressor too, but it was sqealing around 2k rpms.
