The power window switch on my '00 is beginning to go bad. I need to work the rocker quite a few times before the mirror will respond. Is there a way to dissasemble it to clean up the contacts in the rocker part of the switch assembly itself? I did remove it and spay some electrical contact cleaner spray on it, but that did not help.

Was wondering if anyone has done a repair their own with any success. The replacement is $72.00 from RockAuto by the way, see below.

Thanks for any advise.

*EDIT* Crap. I had this typed out before I realized that you may be talking about a window rocker and not the mirror adjuster. You mentioned both interchangeably. Getting the window switch apart was a royal pain in the --- as I had to de-solder all the terminal pins to get to the bottom of the circuit board to replace the $1.50 light bulb. You may not have to go that far as the working bits of the rockers are on top, anyway.

My rocker tops came off by gently prying the side from underneath with a dental hook tool. Using jewelers screwdriver to pry the tabs on the switch will get it apart but springs and contacts may fly out. Also, there may be a bad solder joint on the underside of the switch.

Being a tightwad I learned to repair microswitches a long time ago and it takes mucho patience and a steady hand. You may be better off with a junk yard unit and swapping just the rocker caps if needed. */EDIT*

I did my mirror control when I took apart a bunch of stuff to change the light bulbs. You'll need some small flat prying implements, alcohol (for cleaning and celebrating when you save $75), electrical grease and maybe a digi-cam to record your work so you don't forget where stuff goes. :)

I wish I had taken pictures of the stuff I did but didn't think anyone would be interested.

You'll need to remove the door console and take it to a warm room as you will need all that plastic as flexible as possible before prying the switch out of the console. Then you will need to carefully pry one side of the switch at a time, working around all the sides until it comes apart.

Mine is an '03 so I don't know how similar they are but my switch has 2 locking tabs per side that need to be pried at the same time to get it started.

When mine came apart it has a slide switch for choosing mirror and a small Nintendo gamepad style mechanism for adjusting the mirror. I am assuming the contact pads on the controller are gunky and need to be cleaned and the solder joints checked at the terminals.

Thanks so much for the info.

Not sure why I wrote "window switch" when I'm talking about the power window switch.

I will give it a try and see if I can save the $75.

Regards...
