In later years, GM changed the gap and back spec'd the earlier models. The new gap is .040 and new Iridium's are preset at that size. Stick with Delco or NGK plugs as these motors can be picky.
You sure get some stumpers...
On the A/C. Yes it will run longer in hotter weather just to satisfy the temp control asking for more cooling. Humidity, vehicle speed, condenser air flow, etc all effect how freon will behave throughout the system. The deicing protection is usually done by the...
Without pressure numbers I am afraid to even wade into this.
You are cycling yet have mid 40's at the dash.
Jumping the LP switch keeps the compressor running so the dash control is not switching it off nor the HP switch.
You've replaced the LP switch a bunch of times on who's advice? A...
+1
Also great time to check the knock sensors for corrosion, clean IAC and throttle body. Make sure you have the correct ACDelco spark plugs installed. No Autolite, no Bosche, no arguments.
Sounds like the Body Control Module freaking out. I would check power and ground wires in the engine bay and the harness near the tailgate at the swing joint.
I had to do mine when I made the monumental mistake of hosing off the motor. Motor ran normally.
There is a small harness coming out from under the manifold near the firewall near drivers center. You can just reach the inline plug. Can't recall the number of wires (3 or 4 small wires) but if...
I seem to recall that there was a grounding problem causing all kinds of weird issues on these trucks. Find and check all the ground straps and cables. Remove and clean them well, especially the block to chassis straps.
Since you say you get 12V at the motor, I would check the wiper shaft to see if it's frozen due to corrosion. There should be some play there. If it's tight as a drum then that motor aint gonna turn. You'd think a fuse would pop at that point but they don't always.
If you don't care to...
2 more things to consider. That motor and year has an issue with intake manifold gaskets failing causing lean misfires. Use Felpro Pro problem solver gasket kit.
Spark plug gaps were changed from .60 to .40. Only use AC spark plugs to avoid misfires and other problems. These motors are...
An elusive spot to check for noise in the rear is the torsion bar cross-member. It bolts through rubber bushings and when they fail you will get a muted thump.
Grab the cross member near the frame and try moving it up and down checking for noise and play.
It sits lower because the ZW7 option (Nivomat self leveling) shocks that you took out have springs and 1800 PSI of pressure in them. They are matched with weaker coil springs to even things out.
When you remove those you have to replace the springs, too. Bilstein has a set for this or you...
I have the same issue. I have read that it could be 'slugging' where the compressor tries compressing liquid slugs of freon.
When mine started I lost rear cooling (plugged TX valve) and it could be related since a systems designed for 2 evaporators is only circulating through 1.
The problem...
