So i know a cat back would be better and headers would be EVEN better but i am on an ULTRA budget (who isnt) and I am going to just go ahead and get a flowmaster 40 series (although I am not opposed to something else)...

problem...

I went to check some out online and HOLY CRAP if there isnt 28 different 40 series mufflers that fit my rigg! (so says the web page car-stuff.com)

So here is what I want to know, what mufflers is everyone out there running who has the 5.3L 'Hoe. I do not plan to change anything but the muffler at this point

don't use car-stuff

I wouldn't recomend car-stuff to my worst enemy. They dont know there head from there ***. I ordered a set of headers and they sent me a muffler. I spent 4 phone calls with customer service before they reordered the "correct part" and sent me the stuff for a return. I recieved the second part and WOW it is the same muffler. I called once about returning this one too, and still probably have to call again to get the right stuff.

So I don't recomend ordering anyting from them at all. The are also afiliated with parts train and a whole bunch of other "cheap" parts places.

If there are a bunch of Flowmaster 40s out there, your shop should be able to find one that will fit your truck and the stock piping. Should be no issue at all.

Autoanything.com is guaranteed cheapest performance parts for 1 year, if you find a better price they will refund you for the difference. I'm buying my exhaust from them when I get paid on the 15th.

40 series is one of the more popular from flowmaster. you just gotta call them and have them switch it when you order the kit

Would you happen to know exactly what size the incoming pipe is? It looks like 3" but i dont want to saw anything off before having the part to weld back in place

IF yours is the same as mine... I have a 3" coming into the muffler and dual 3" coming out. The shop that did mine put a single 3" center-in, single 3" offset-out 22" and re-built the pipe.... I used Magnaflow due to the quieter tone. I am very happy with the sound... it drones a LITTLE at 2000-2300 RPM, but I am hoping it goes away. I was also told that Magnaflow provided a better performance increase... but not sure if that is correct or not.

After driving a long time (especially on highway) my truck tends to make quite a bit of noise under load. While going up hills around college campus, it will roar all the way up and people will definatly hear it. Mine is 3" coming in, dual 2.5" coming out into 3.5" tips.

My brand new Magnaflow isn't bad cruising on the highway... but climbing hills it can get a bit of drone. I've had a Flowmaster on my Camaro... and it was pretty loud. I'd look more at Magnaflow or even Dynomax... it appeared they had a fairly quiet one.... The tone of a Magnaflow is beautiful. It's not loud, bubbly, or obnoxious. It's a perfect tone...

Mine will drone a bit between 1.8-2.3krpm while accelerating or going uphill. That seems to be the peak for noise during everyday driving. While on the interstate doing 75, you can hear a constant growl from inside but it's not irritating enough to call it drone imo. But driving around town the truck will be heard without a doubt. But luckily its a sound people like to hear, not that nasty glass-pack or fart can mess.
