Gimme the low down please.. if I get something like a Hypertech programmer how much does hp and torque increase? What does it really do to fuel economy? Looking at getting one but want some feedback other than from a magazine. Is it something you set only for off road use, or can you drive in the performance mode all the time?

I've got a superchips max microtuner that i've been running for a month on my 01 hoe with the 5.3. It has three modes, 87, 91, and towing. I definitely saw a small gain in responsiveness and torque, more so with the 91 tune that i am now using full time. I doubt i got as much as the box claimed....but i'd say anywhere between 20hp and torque wouldnt be too far off of what i got.....

I bought a Hypertech (97 Tahoe 2dr) $300.00. Easy to install. However dont try and pull a RV or heavy trailer you will start getting a "pinging" sound. Like its missing. You have to go back to stock and pull it. You wont burn rubber but you will go faster quicker than you would have before. I also have a K&N filter and had a Flowmaster too. Gas mileage is so-so....ref that "pinging" has something to do with the earlier Vortech Engines.

Best bet is to get a tune from Weatley tune. Endless retunes for free. Get the most power your truck can produce and better gas mileage to. 250.00
