i removed my roof rack because i like the clean look. what is everyone doing with the holes after removing these? i put silicone back in the hole and around the screw and reinstalled them to keep water out and the painted the screw heads with matching white touch up. they still stand out too much and i want a "smooth" solution. thanks for any help on this.

I had a 07' Yukon and I just left the holes open, not problems at all and you couldnt even notice them.

I thought the holes go all the way through? Is the 08 tahoe different than the Yukon?

I would replace the screws or put some rubber grommets or some sealant in there - you are taking a chance that rain/moisture won't get in there and cause leak problems in the headliner.

I'm pretty sure the roof is the same. To be safe, go to Home Depot and get some clear silicone and put that in the holes where the screws were. You wouldn't even notice it and the screws will easily go back in whenever you decide to put the roof rack back on.

I sold the Yukon so I cant take any pics of the roof, but I do have a few pics of the Yuk for personal enjoyment.

I had my roof rack off for almost a year and I live in Louisiana where it is usually raining or extremely humid never had any problems.

No problems that you could see but that is just plain bad advice.

Why would anyone remove bolts and leave exposed holes to allow water to infiltrate? Even if the holes dont go fully through, you would not want water sitting in the mounting hole. It will start rusting and spread. :skep:

That wasn't advice brotha, it was a statement. No where in what I stated said that YOU should do that.

I saw a pic a while back of a guy who mounted some spikes through the holes. Not really my style, but it was interesting. Do SOMETHING with the holes, don't leave them open.

You could patch them up with some silicone, but I would say do it right and have them filled, sanded, preped, and painted.

I removed my roof rack and ended up putting it back on because I was too worried about moisture seeping in through holes. The correct procedure IMO is what DoD suggested.

Might try those flat, round plastic disks that are used to cover screw heads on furniture. They're very thin and could be RTV'd in.

I know why you never had any problems, cause you sold it, but it's more like you won't be seeing the problems in the future I'd imagine... Somebody else is gonna see some rust one day though.
